28/11/2009      Novasure Endometrial Ablation

Novasure is a method of destroying the lining of the uterus to stop heavy periods or make them very much lighter.  See www.novasure.com

24/11/2006        New Ultrasound Scanner

A new state-of-the-art ultrasound scanner is now in use. The Philips iU22 has very high resolution and advanced 3D-4D capabilities. Images can be supplied on CDs.

09/01/2002   Essure pbc now here
Essure is a new method of permanent contraception for women. The device is inserted into the fallopian tubes using a telescope entering the uterus through the vagina. Insertion requires no cutting and usually no anaesthetic with almost no recovery time.

01/11/2000   Implanon contraceptive
Implanon is a small plastic rod that is placed under the skin in the arm and which contains a low dose of hormone. This is slowly released to give very safe contraception for up to 3 years. After removal, normal fertility returns in one month.

08/07/2000   Mirena Hormone releasing IUD
Mirena is a plastic intra-uterine device containing hormone that is used for contraception and to reduce loss with menstruation and HRT. It will last up to three years and can easily be removed at any time.

06/02/2000   3D ultrasound
3D ultrasound is now available on my ATL 5000 HDI ultrasound scanner. It is capable of 3D images of babies and pelvic organs although many babies are not in a suitable lie to get a recognizable 3D image.

10/12/2000   Downs risk using nuchal translucency
Babies can now be scanned at 11-14 weeks with measurement of the skin thickness on the back of the neck, “nuchal translucency”, which allows estimation of the risk of chromosomal abnormalities much better than using the age of the mother.

07/05/2000   TVT
Urine loss with stress such as coughing can now be fixed with a less invasive operation, Tension-free Vaginal Tape, which has minimal pain, no catheter and back to work in 2 weeks (but no heavy lifting for four weeks).
