Lorraine and Dympna are the midwives who talks to all patients and who work when Dr Howland is in the consulting rooms. They can answer more detailed questions about services offered and patients’ problems. They give out advice and results of tests. They frequently discuss patient problems with Dr Howland that often results in either them or Dr Howland contacting the patient for further advice.

Q: Where does Dr Howland deliver babies? A: At North West Brisbane Private Hospital (NWBPH) unless the baby will need a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (N-ICU), when deliveries are at The Royal Women’s Hospital.
Q: Does NWBPH have adequate facilities in case my baby is sick or premature? A: Very few babies require a N-ICU. Moderately sick or premature babies can usually be looked after very safely at NWBPH. For those born at NWBPH who then require N-ICU, transfer can easily be arranged of both baby and mother.
Q: How long do I have to wait for an operation? A: Most operations can be arranged in the next one to three weeks, although this may need to be modified by your menstrual cycle or rostered time off for Dr Howland.
Q: What happens if I need an operation and have no private insurance? A: Dr Howland does not work in the public system now. You have two options: You can pay for private hospital care. You can be referred to the gynaecology outpatients service of any local public hospital where you will be reassessed and possibly placed on the waiting list for an operation.
